Classes:
Mysore style classes are the traditional way to learn ashtanga yoga. They originated from the tradition's roots in Mysore, Karnataka, in the South of India. This is where Sri K. Patthabi Jois, the head of the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition lives and teaches. Students practice at their own pace, moving through a series of postures. Whilst it is not a guided class help is given and guidance provided when needed. Beginners are welcome.
On a Full moon and New moon a restorative yoga practice will be taught.
In the beginner sessions we will explore the foundation of ashtanga vinyasa yoga: the sun salutations; the three core techniques that underlie this practice; bandhas (abdominal and anal locks); ujjayi pranayama (victorious stretch of the breath); dristi (gazing points); and the six fundamental standing postures.
Mysore class is open to absolute beginners.
All Levels classes are for practitioners who are experienced with the foundation of the Primary Series. Students are guided through the range of standing, sitting, bridging and finishing postures which make up the Primary Series. With certain postures included in the second half of the Primary Series modifications are offered to suit the development of individual practitioners.
'Big' Time classes are specially designed to accomodate students who may have concerns regarding their size, weight or ability to practice yoga, and provide a safe and supportive environment. Yoga is not just for size zeros!
Guided Meditation
Meditation brings a clear understanding that everything originates in the mind and with that knowledge one's life takes on a new meaning.
When it comes to meditation practices, the body is as precious as the mind so in our guided class we will explore the three arts: the art of sitting, the art of doing nothing and the art of breathing.
Our study will be supported by two main techniques: single pointed meditation and analytic or contemplative meditation. The practice of sitting still brings peace, calm and mental clarity enabling us to overcome everyday obstacles and to live our lives more fully.
